BEAR RIVER WATER SYSTEM PROJECT UPDATE

Please be advised, motorists, pedestrians, and cyclists are asked to be cautious when coming through the community of Bear River during the water system installation.

All of the businesses will remain open at their regular hours, please be mindful and respectful of traffic delays, limited parking availability, and higher than normal foot traffic.

Please direct all questions or concerns to the County of Annapolis.

The Bear River Water System project includes 4 phases that involves bringing water from well locations on the Digby County side of Bear River and piping it to the Annapolis County side.

• Phase 1: Includes replacement of the existing 50mm water main with a new 100mm water main, improvements to the existing access road and upgrading culverts.

This work is complete

• Phase 2: Includes replacement of the existing 50mm water main with a new 100mm water main along Pleasant Street and Lansdowne Road with new service connections installed.

Work is taking place now and expected to be completed by September 20th

• Phase 3: Includes installation of the water main across the Bear River bridge, extending the 100mm water main along Clementsvale Road, and installation of a 50mm water main on Wharf Street.

Work taking place on Wharf Street is complete.

Work on Clementsvale Road to the bridge from Wharf Street intersection is underway and expected completion by Sept 13.

Work on Clementsvale Road from Wharf Street to the Oakdene Centre scheduled to be completed by September 30th.

Work to bring the water across the bridge itself to take place after October 15th.

• Phase 4: Includes a new 50mm raw water main from the existing Digby County Exhibition Grounds well to the new well treatment building. Treatment will include chlorination and UV disinfection.

Upgrades to the power and controls of the existing well system at the Digby County Exhibition ground will be included (work not yet tendered).

Finally, not included in the above project phases but planned for construction in the near future, is the construction of a comfort station (washrooms) located on Wharf Street (not yet tendered).

Note: The time periods indicated above are all subject to change due to factors including: a) the presence of an archaeologist on site for certain stages of excavation due to the potential for historical artifacts being present, b) challenging terrain, c) existing infrastructure and d) unexpected circumstances.
