Changes to the Municipal Elections Act
Royal Assent was given to changes to the Municipal Elections Act on October 30, 2019.
One of the changes affects the period when the Returning Officer can make appointments for filing nomination papers.
Rather than five (5) business leading up to Nomination Day (November 19th), newly amended legislation (Section 44[9] of the Municipal Elections Act) states seven (7) business immediately preceding Nomination Day (November 19th).
Therefore, the Returning Officer will accept appointments to file nomination papers during office hours (8:30am-4:30pm) starting on Friday, November 8, 2019, seven business days immediately preceding Nomination Day (November 19th).
