Evacuation Reception Centre & Shelter Reinstates 24 Hr. Operations - Aug 21-22

The Municipality of the County of Annapolis wishes to reassure residents that support remains available for those affected by the ongoing evacuation.

The Evacuation Reception Centre & Shelter, located at NSCC – Annapolis Valley Campus (295 Commercial St., Middleton), will operate on a 24-hour basis for the next two days: Thursday, August 21, and Friday, August 22.

This facility offers evacuees access to essential services, including showers, laundry facilities, wi-fi, overnight accommodations, and light nourishment options.

Brian Orde, Annapolis Regional Emergency Management Organization (REMO), emphasized the importance of community collaboration during this time.

“Operating the Reception Centre 24 hours over the next two days will give evacuees peace of mind and access to support during a time of uncertainty. By registering and using the available services, residents help us allocate resources where they are needed most and plan next steps effectively.”

At the end of this two-day period, the County will reassess the need for 24-hour operations based on the number of evacuated residents using the shelter and the evolving situation. If it is determined that the facility is not being utilized, alternative arrangements may be explored to ensure the most effective use of resources while continuing to meet evacuee needs.

Should the situation escalate, the County remains ready to reopen 24-hour operations immediately to ensure the safety and well-being of those affected.

For assistance or questions, residents are encouraged to contact the public information line at 1-833-806-1515; staffed daily 11am-7pm.
