Employment Opportunity Building/ Fire Official (Level 1) Permanent Full-time – Pay Level 4 ($60,753 – 76,466) The County of Annapolis is currently seeking a Building/ Fire Official (Level 1) to join our team! Building / Fire Official (Level 1) is responsible for assisting with the development, coordination, oversight and implementation of the Municipality’s Building Bylaw and Fire Inspection Program under the Guidance of the Building / Fire Official (Level 2) and the Director of Planning and Inspection Services. This role provides support for plan reviews, building and fire inspections, compliance matters and public inquiries while gaining experience toward becoming a fully qualified Building Official. The Level 1 Official assists with application reviews, ensures building permit and inspection activities comply with the Municipality’s Building Bylaw and the Nova Scotia Building Code Act and Regulations, responds to complaints, supports the Director with research and reporting, maintains membership with NSBOA and FIANS when eligible, participates in department meetings and assists with the development of educational materials and presentations. Qualifications: Candidates for this position must possess as a minimum, Level I training and certification for building inspections according to certification standards set out by Nova Scotia Building Officials Association (NSBOA) or be actively working towards Level 1 certification. Candidates must be working toward Level 1 fire inspection certification or be able to achieve this status within three years of starting this position. ideally, the candidate will have 1-3 years experience in a municipal, provincial or construction related environment, with exposure to interpreting building and inspection codes, rules and legislation. Experience within a municipal government setting is an asset or an equivalent combination of education, professional experience and lived experience will be considered.
